History. Alford wrote "Come, Ye Thankful People, Come" in while he was the rector of Aston Standford church in Buckinghamshire, England. It was first published in Hymns and Psalms in with seven verses under the title "After Harvest".
" Come, Ye Thankful People, Come" was set to George J. Elvey's hymn tune St. George's, Windsor in InAlford revised the hymn, and it was Genre: Hymn. Come, Ye Thankful People, Come was first published by its author, Rev. Henry Alford, in his book, Psalms and Hymns Adapted to the Sundays and Holydays Throughout the Church Year.
It was successfully wedded to a tune composed by Sir George Elvey in the first Hymns Ancient and Modern.
